I am going to do a modern version of a modest proposal however my topic is going to be about the problem of money in education. We are trying to make so many cuts in schools that it majorly effecting teachers and students as well.
My proposal is that we fire ALL teachers and therefore we can save and use all that money that we would otherwise use to pay them. Instead of having teachers in every class there will be a robot that acts as the teacher. This robot will be programmed with all of the information and curriculum needed for that class. So we would be assured that all of our students will be taught what they need to know in every single class. We could save money on having to print up the curriculum and also save time by having to teach all of the teachers the curriculum. All of the money saved on paying the teachers can be used to help improve our education system.

You have a very interesting topic and have a well-thought-out solution presented here. I think it will work well as a modern "Modest Proposal" type essay. You might want to think about defining your issue in more specific terms though (kind of like we talked about in class today). What is the problem with money in education? Is there not enough money? Not enough for certain areas in education (curriculum, staffing...)? Are the current funds just being used inappropriately? How do these budget cuts affect teachers/students negatively? (That might seem like everyone already knows that, but its good to put exactly what you believe is the problem.) Also you might want to talk about what the saved money can be used for. How can it be used to help improve our education system? By making more classes available (because more robots would be available)? By building new schools/improving the ones we have? For school lunch programs/extracurricular activities? Also how could this affect college/university teachers? Would this help make a college education more affordable? Just some questions that I thought of when reading your proposal. All together I think you have a workable topic that will make a good "Modest Proposal."
